In 1925 the parent company of STELLA GROUP was founded in Marktredwitz and produced abrasives in magnesite, resin and virtrified bond. In the early 1980’s the company became property of the Dr. Herrmann family. Some smaller abrasives manufacturers were then integrated like the company Winterling Keramik in Schwarzenbach/Saale in 1987. After the German reunification, the companies Schmirgelwerk Chemnitz GmbH in Chemnitz and Capillar Schleifkörperwerk GmbH in Crosta near Bautzen became members of the group.

After extensive investments in buildings and equipment the factory moved from Marktredwitz to Schwarzenbach/Saale in 1994. In 2015 the STELLA Group has acquired the neighbouring property in Schwarzenbach Saale with a surface area of about 5,600 square metres along with a complex of buildings (including a former shopping centre) for securing the future growth course. Today the STELLA GROUP understand themselves as manufacturers of conventional special abrasives in vitrified and resinoid bond with emphasis on certain application fields as for example profile grinding of gear teeth, honing and superfinishing, permanent way – extensive experience with the new grinding raw material sintered aluminium oxide is to be highlighted.

STELLA is producing at three sites with about 110 employees. The export quota is around 40 %. STELLA relies on the strengths of a medium-sized company such as flexibility, customer focus and short lead times.

Outside the abrasives business sector, the Bautzener Brauerei in Bautzen has been part of the STELLA GROUP for some years already. It is a craft brewery with gastronomic business, bowling hall and indoor 18-holes minigolf course in the traditional Bautzener Brewery.
